Re-Pitch insert mode working also on rests

• Nov 20, 2022 - 08:50

Hi,
I'd like to have the re-pitch insert mode also working on rests. As of now, I succeed only to have it working on notes...
You'll say that is logical as MuseScore cannot re-pitch something that has no pitch.
Actually, I see that insert-mode more as way to insert notes while keeping the underneath rhythm than a re-pitch.

I'm not sure what you mean by "re-pitch insert mode". Those are two separate modes.

The whole point of re-pitch is to preserve the original rhythms exactly while only changing pitch - the sort of thing that one does all the time in ensemble music where for instance all woodwinds will have the same rhythm but different pitches. Same rhythm by definition means preserving durations and rests - otherwise it's not the same rhythm.

Insert mode is for adding additional beats to a measure - a completely different thing, designed and optimized for the production of cadenzas, non-metered music, and other very specialized use cases.

Sorry, I translated my French UI labels to English guesses for the forum threads.
I meant "Re-pitch (input) mode".

Exactly what I mean. My request is to have this feature not only when there is a note at the cursor position but also a rest.

As mentioned, that would change the rhythm - completely defeating the purpose of the mode, which is to preserve the rhythm, so all you need to do is type the new pitches. Sounds like you are trying to use it to do something other than what it was designed for. Best to attach your score and describe more precisely what you are trying to do, then we can help you find a more appropriate way to accomplish the goal.
