Names of Various Objects in the Palettes

• Nov 25, 2022 - 14:59

I hope this is not a duplicate, but there appears to be no search feature in the forums ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Many objects have names in their respective palettes corresponding to their in-score appearance, rather than the term associated with them. This makes some of them (especially dynamics) harder to search.

My suggestion is that these objects also be able to be found by search with their full names.

  • Any dynamic marking. I can't find piano by searching for piano, same for sforzato, etc.
  • Any shortened text or line. The situation is much better for these, as the short form is usually long enough to isolate them (accel). Strangely enough, this does not seem to apply to crescendo, diminuendo, and some others: they can be found by those names.
  • Less important: octave transposition. These can be found by 8va/15ma alta/bassa, but they should also be searchable by the full ottava alta etc.

Since MU4 is still in beta, this might still be added. OTOH, I'm not sure why you would need to search for most any of those things once you learn your way around the palettes. Think about it: there is no piano in the palette. Nor is there any soft. Nor loud. Sforzanto (sforzando) being a dynamic mark, would be in the dynamic palette. Searchable by which full name? Ottava sopra?
