MS4 Export to MP3 makes program highly susceptible to crashing

• Dec 16, 2022 - 01:08

Due to the audio playback issues, I've been exporting my scores to MP3 so I can listen to them. The only problem is that once I set the program to export, MS4 becomes very touchy and crashes often. Something as basic as switching windows or moving the mouse wrong causes crashes. This can be very problematic when I'm trying to export 13 minute wind ensemble pieces.

Specs:
Windows 10
Intel i7
16 GB of Ram

So the advice now is: just don't use it?
This can be the answer for everything: just don't use it.

This has been reported several times already.

To the OP: you could record with an external recorder, until this is fixed.
i installed 'audio recorder' (Linux) - https://launchpad.net/~audio-recorder/+archive/ubuntu/ppa -, which works fine. I am sure several solutions exist for Window sand Mac.

I'm using MS Basic sounds, and it still takes forever to export. Tried all the different types of audio files, and they all take forever. I can't sort the bug with playback (not tech savvy enough - can't even find preferences I/O to try that one!), so have resorted to exporting to listen, but no joy there either... Any advice gratefully received!

You don't have to be tech savvy. Just follow instructions.
Open MU4. Select the edit tab in the upper left corner. Scroll down to and select Preferences. Select I/O. select the down arrow next to Buffer 1024 and select 4096. And make sure the audio device shown is at least Default. If you have headphones plugged in, it might say headphones. If while you are running MU4 don't decide to change from speakers to headphones ( or the other way around) all sound will stop working.
And try leaving the mixer open.
And yes, export in MU4 takes a long time. Not a bug.
