Changing to A clarinet breaks part

• Dec 17, 2022 - 23:26

In a part with both A clarinet and B flat clarinet random notes are being transposed up or down an octave. Playback sounds normal but the notes on the page are an octave off

In my screenshots you will see 2 high B's. Note that they are not colored yellow like they would normally be on a clarinet, and they sound normal. All B's are notated an octave higher. Also in the first screenshot the highlighted middle D sounds an octave higher when I click on it but sounds normal in normal playback.

I was also having trouble with some key signatures not working properly at all but I don't remember exactly what was wrong with them.

No issues happened in the full score but in the individual parts these happened.

EDIT: Musescore 4.0.0

I at last got a chance to retry this with the release version. OS: Windows 10 Version 2009, Arch.: x86_64, MuseScore version (64-bit): 4.0.0-223472200, revision: 5485621

It all seems to work OK for me with both single instruments and multiple in score and individual parts. Please can you confirm which version of Musescore you are experiencing the problem with and provide detailed instructions to reproduce it.

How do I check my exact version of musescore?

I'm having trouble reproducing this. It was in some very odd circumstances when I was moving around and copy pasting parts between A and B-flat clarinet (I had just decided to change a section to A clarinet so I had to move many parts around to make room for an instrument change). I will update you if I can ever manage to reproduce the bug

For what it's worth there is one bug that is easy to reproduce, I'll attach a picture of some key changes in the score which are undeletable. Also in the individual part for the 2nd part the key is in full sharps instead of flat key signature. This is how you can reproduce it:

Create a score with 2 B-flat clarinet parts
Set the key to A-flat minor
On both parts go to part properties and set prefer flat key signatures
Toggle off concert pitch
On the LOWER clarinet part: Go to text -> change instrument -> Clarinet in A
Delete the text

Hopefully that works, I think this bug had a part in the other strange bug I had.

Worth noting that I can't open up my Musescore without changing my audio device as for whatever reason Musescore 4 seems to be incompatible with my Sennheiser PC 373d headphones.

And again I will update you if I can ever reproduce the bug but I honestly am so confused by how this came to happen.

I am pretty sure your headphones issue is completely separate and probably worth a new entry in the issue tracker or Git Hib.

Let's hope that your instrument change problem is "just one of those things" that doesn't recur. As a clarinettist I am often transcribing/arranging parts with instrument changes and am keen that Musescore gets it right. It has had other problems in this area in the past. Fingers crossed.
