Dropdown for change Staff type is greyed out and unclickable

I want to add a linked tablature staff to my guitar and when i click linked staff it automatically generates a linked treble cleff, I go to the instruments panel to change it to a tab and the option is greyed out and not available. Why is this and how do I fix it. Screenshot included for demonstration.
