Portamentos

I want to add a portamento that works on woodwind instruments for playback. If I go to properties and chose the portamento style, on playback it sounds like two separate intervals without the portamento.
I tried it with chromatic glissando but it doesn't sound right. Is there a way to make portamento work on woodwind instruments?
