Long notes over multiple bars

In my running example on
OS: macOS 13.0, Arch.: x86_64,
MuseScore version (64-bit): 4.0.0-223472200, revision: github-musescore-musescore-548562
in a piece with time signature 6/8, a quarter note can be extended to a dotted half note bound to a quarter note in the next bar by selecting the quarter note and typing the key 7 (shortcut for whole note). (intended behaviour)

If I select a quarter note and type 8 (shortcut for double whole note), I expect the note to be extended to two dotted half notes and another half note bound together. However nothing happens (same behaviour if I select the icon from the menu).

Is this intended behaviour?
If not, what could I try / where should I report it?
