Expanded Sound Library for Muse Strings

• Dec 31, 2022 - 17:07

I've been using MuseScore 4 with Muse Sounds, and while I'm very happy with much of it, it does have some quirks. The biggest issue I've found is with the strings. They sound pretty good at slow tempos or with longer note values, but they're kind of useless when it comes to faster moving notes. The issue to my ear is that the attack is too slow.

My suggestion is to offer expanded sound libraries, particularly for the strings. Have a sound that is "slow strings"—basically exactly what already exists—and others that offer standard articulation.

A workaround is to add articulation to make it sound right—certainly feasible, but it can be time consuming and lead to a cluttered score. (The articulation can be turned invisible, which can also be time consuming.) You can also do what I've been doing: switch back to the MS Basic string sound.

I know adding additional sounds is a significant ask, but I think it would be worthwhile in the long run. Thanks for your consideration.
