Playback issue in MS4 - play all instruments while viewing just one part

• Jan 15, 2023 - 10:29

I raised this issue a few days ago but my message seems to have disappeared from the forum, so I will try again.
In MS3 I can select the part I wish to view, then open the mixer and deselect "play part only", so that all instruments/parts appear in the mixer and will play while I follow just the single part that I have selected. A similar facility appears to be unavailable in MS4. I select the part and all instruments appear in the mixer, but only the part that I am actually viewing seems to be active. When I play the score I get just the instrument/part that I am actually looking at. How can I get the rest of the instruments/parts to play??
Thank you in anticipation.
Andrew

Hello, I'm relatively new to MS4, so take this with a grain of salt.

If I understand you correctly, you are highlighting a part in the score (in order to view it) but you are only hearing the playback of the selected instrument (which is not what you want).

For what it's worth I think that the behaviour has changed from 3 to 4.

In 4, highlighting measures on a part (or parts) is now the de facto way of 'isolating the sound' rather than clumsily trawling through the mixer to select which instruments are playing (using combinations of 'solo' or 'mute'). I can see the real benefit of this for checking a sub-section of parts, but it doesn't help you.

I wonder if someone else can find a work around for what you need — which I am guessing is keeping focus on one part on the score.
