Midi import - volume incorrect

• Jan 17, 2023 - 14:40

I use a separate midi editor to remove all dynamics and then raise the volume of one particular voice. I then import to Musescore to save as mp3. Musescore 3 retains all dynamics but version 4 doesn't.

Are you saying the MP3 export sounds different than the playback within MuseScore? or that the import from MIDI ignored the velocity? Either way, we'd need you to attach the file you are having trouble with and give precise steps to reproduce the issue.

It is working as expect for me - if I visit the Playback tab of the Properties panel, those velcoities are reflected. I think you're simply being fooled by the fact that Muse Sounds does not yet honor velocity information. Change the playback to MS Basic (or anything other than Muse Sounds) and it sounds as I think you expect.

Why not simply add dynamics after import? Or, just use the Mixer? Also, takes only a couple of clicks to go tp View / Playback setup and select MS Basic, and if you do this often, you can make it the default also.

FWIW, Muse Piano is better in many ways indeed than the default soundfont, but not as dramatically so as other instruments, because piano doesn't have the complexities of other instruments.
