i cant get the concert bass drum to sound or even show a note. any suggestions? timpani works fine.

Hello, not sure if I am understanding your issue, but hope this might be it.
With timpani (or any pitched percussion) you can add notes as you would for any other pitched instrument, use the N mode and press the note's pitch value e.g. B, F, C.
With non-pitched percussion, when you enter the Add Note (N) mode, you can only add the bass drum using the A key (see screen grab for the menu that appears at the bottom). The usual beat-length rules apply (5 = quarter note, 6 = half note etc).
