Help with lead sheet with treble and bass

• Jan 22, 2023 - 04:44

I want to make a lead sheet with both treble and bass lines. I know, most jazz lead sheets have a single line, for just the melody. Humor me. I tried using the Jazz Lead Sheet template to get a single line with a treble clef, then using Instruments choice to bring up the instrumentation, obviously just Piano -> Treble clef. There's an "Add staff" button below the Treble Clef entry, and clicking on the '+' does exactly what I want, except it's another treble clef, and seems to give me no way to make it a bass clef.

I'm sure I'm overlooking something obvious, please help. Thanks!

Does select the clef in the score that you want to change, then select the base clef in the clef palette work?
Or when you add an instrument, select a bass instrument instead.

Strange ...
If I do the same (using MS 3.6.2):

  • creating new score

  • choosing 'Jazz Lead Sheet' template

  • finally I get a single piano sheet in treble clef

  • then I press 'i', select 'Staff 1' and 'Add Staff' and finally I get a bass clef.

Of course one can change the clef for any staff later using the clefs palette.

i must be just as noobish. I have jazz sheet 4/4 time in the key of G. In the middle of page 1, i would like to add a treble/bass for piano for 1 or 2 lines, and then revert back to my jazz, single treble line. i can't seem to get this to work. My MS version is fairly updated, 4.1.1.2320xxx. Do i need to start with a typical piano score, and then.. i do not have the steps down. really confusing. sometimes when i use the 'hide' empty lines, it really makes my score sheet ugly as rocks. in the palettes tab, there is Palettes, Properties, Instruments tab, i choose the instruments tab. I have attached a sample piece. This is somewhat what i am trying to do, but it's not turning out well. When i add a piano, MS adds another treble line to the first line AND the 3rd line. 2 things, i cant seem to control where the 2nd treble line goes, and then it becomes a treble and not the typical piano bass cleff.
