I updated to 4.0 and where is stem direction option?
3.6 has it but not 4.0, where is it!?

Also, why doesn't it highlight the note as its playing it, I'm about to switch back to 3.6
For stem direction there is an icon on the note input toolbar - to the right of the triplet icon.
The keyboard shortcut remains X.

Brilliant thank you. Just doing a version of fight song for my choir. Bass part stems were the wrong direction. Highlighted all the part and pressed x.
It's in the properties pane (the renamed inspector).
Properties > Note > Stem > Stem direction
You can also use the 'x' shortcut to invert it, just as in 3.6
