Musescore 4 converted all my scores from 3 to 4. How do I convert back to 3?

Apparently running in the background Musescore 4 converted all my scores from Musescore 3 to 4. Is this normal? Unfortunately, Musescore 4 is far to buggy to run on my systems (Hangs or Crashes all the time). I would like to convert all those files back to version 3 so I can continue working with them. How do I do that?

I had run into the same issue, and unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a way to convert a MS 4 to MS 3—that is, you can't save as a previous version. Here are a few options:

• If you haven't saved the files yet, don't, and close them without saving. Rather than simply double-clicking, do an option-click and choose to open the file in MS 3. This may work.
• There may be an autosaved version that is saved in MS 3 that you can open—but again, you'll need to option-click to open it in MS 3. Simply double-clicking will always open in MS 4 by default.
• Save the file as XML, then option-click and open in MS 3. You will probably lose some information going this route, but you'll still have something you can work with.

Even though it won't fix the issue, I would suggest removing MS 4 from your computer if you're not planning on using it, as MS files will automatically open in MS 4 if it is available.

All that being said, I have found the latest version of MS 4 to be much more stable and usable than the first version, so I've been very happy using it. It's not perfect, but I think the engraving improvements alone make it worth the occasional bug.

I hope this helps!
