change between horizontal and vertical scrolling
I find it very useful to change between horizontal and vertical scrolling in different scenarios (for example I often think it's easier to proofread in vertical, but mostly like horizontal when putting in notes). I would like to have a button to toggle between tha modes.

At the bottom right of the MuseScore window is a 3-way (drop down) switch for viewing/scrolling by page, or horizontal, or vertical:

Yes, but it's not the same as in the settings dialogue. The Continuous view removes all page breaks, and is not what I want.

Do you know how to scroll with the mouse?
Mouse wheel -> scroll up/down
SHIFT+mouse wheel - > scroll left/right

See the horizontal/vertical control in Edit / Preferences / Canvas.

That's where I use to do it, but I would like a switch in the toolbar for example, or like the drop-down mentioned earlier. It's a bit teadious to go through preferences every time

Understood. It's not something most people do very often at all, so it seems unlikely to me that a dedicated control for for it would do anything but clutter the interface for most people. But if enough requests come, then it can certainly be considered!
One thing that should work, in theory: having different workspaces set up, with different preferences. But unfortunately, I don't think this is not maintained independently for different workspaces. See https://github.com/musescore/MuseScore/issues/15957. If this were to be fixed, it would address this nicely I think, and would also allow you to have other settings or configurations specific for editing versus proofing or whatever.
