High Notes Not Playing

• Apr 8, 2023 - 16:55

I am composing a piece with a euphonium solo in it. I wrote in a note (D5) which is 100% a playable note on the euphonium since I've played it myself many times. But despite it being at the very top of the professional range it won't play during playback. Any suggestions help, Thanks!

There is no D5 in the score you attached. However, I confirm that if I add one, it doesn't play. It also doesn't play in MU3 with the Musescore.general.sf3 soundfont (actually it uses a tuba sound from that soundfont).

This thread from the old issue tracker seems to say that a soundfont with the euphonium range extended to F5 was made available for MU3 https://musescore.org/en/node/324917. However, I am not sure if that soundfont is usable with MU4. Perhaps you can investigate that further. So, one workaround is to use that soundfont with MU3. Another (poor) workaround is to use a trombone sound, which does reach D5.

Not very satisfactory, I am afraid.
