Mobile scoring app

• Apr 8, 2023 - 23:18

I’m sure this has been asked many times before, so please feel free to point me to an existing thread.

I have an ancient iPad Air 2 and an equally ancient MacBook Air that actually belongs to work (I work in IT, and it was being retired). I’m planning to update, and I’m trying to decide between an iPad Pro and MacBook—either would be in a middle price range. I prefer a tablet for a lot of things (including music performance), but there are apps (e.g. MuseScore) that aren’t available on mobile devices (yet) or have limited features on mobile devices. On the flip side, very few laptops have touchscreens, and they don’t work well on music stands.

All that to ask, is a mobile/iPad version of MuseScore planned? Although I’m not a programmer, I work in IT (mostly user support) and would be willing to help with a mobile development project if my skills were a good fit.

Thanks for any information and direction you can give.

Buy a Microsoft Surface, you'll get a tablet and a computer to use MuseScore in one single device.
Just be careful to cheick one of the regular offers allowing to get a surface + a keyboard (and sometimes mouse and pen) combo for roughly 2 third of the total list price.

Good point—I’m basically looking for a Mac Surface. I’m a Mac guy at home, but I use and support Windows at work, so it wouldn’t be a huge adjustment—I actually have an ancient Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga on my desk which is essentially a surface without the detachable keyboard, and I’d tried using it for another music app. My daughter has a Surface she’d like to unload, and maybe I can help her out. 😏
