Musescore keeps crashing

• Apr 10, 2023 - 04:23

I already did the obvious things that people would do first. I already restarted my PC, uninstalled and reinstalled Musescore, just installed the standalone version, went back a few versions up to Musescore 4.0 and nothing. It keeps crashing, I already did some things that people wouldn't normally do like run sfc and DISM but that didn't work. I searched for forums but nothing like this has ever happened. The only thing that can work is Musescore 3 but to be honest I don't wanna to back to that. I checked event manager and it gave me this error

Faulting application name: MuseScore4.exe, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x00000000

Again, Are you doing a particular thing when it crashes? How long after you open it does it crash? If you open it and do nothing, does it still crash? Have you tried opening from a score? Custom page settings in a printer that are different from what MU4 has, can cause a crash. In that case disconnect the printer. Have you tried starting from the exe in the bin folder. And does the desktop icon point to the proper start folder? Can you reset MU4? Can you do a repair install (not the same as a reinstall)?

OK, so it isn't crashing. It's not starting. There is a difference. I gave you a list of things. Some of them keep MuseScore from starting.
When MuseScore starts it checks to see if you have a printer. If you do and the paper size set up in the printer doesn't match what is default in the program, there have been reports of the program not starting until the printer is disconnected. Same with some audio interfaces. If you have an audio interface, try disconnecting it.
So the program was open long enough to try a reset as well as a repair?

One I don't have a printer
Two I don't have an audio interface but I will disconnect my headphones
Three I can even get into Musescore as I can't even get into the main menu
Four How the hell does Musescore check if I have paper in the printer when one its not always on and two it cant even get into the main menu?

For me, it is not starting.

I am running Musescore4.0.2.230651553 on a Win10 laptop. If I connect using Microsoft's remote desktop program from an old iMac running OSX 10.11, it works fine. If I connect from a Ubuntu 22.04 desktop running remmina, MuseScore4 doesn't start. I think it may be related to audio setup (or lack thereof).

Muse Score doesn't check to see if there is paper in the printer. It checks the size of the paper settings. On some systems a mismatch can cause a no start.
Go to Control Center/Sound. There should be a green check by your default audio device. Select that device. Select Properties down in the lower right. Select the Advanced tab. Uncheck Exclusive mode. Then select OK. Select OK again to finish.
All I can say is that I have MU4 running on 5 very different computers. I have no more ideas for you unless you have an overactive firewall or AV. Or some other conflict.

I have just installed MuseScore and have the same/similar problem. After a reboot, I can open MuseScore and load a file for editing. After about 5 minutes, MuseScore crashes and then refuse to open until Windows is restarted. Running Windows 10 Pro. 10.0.19045 Build 19045.
