Can't drag symbols over to measures in Musescore 4

• Apr 28, 2023 - 16:38

Two major problems I'm having:

  1. I'm a harpist and we have to add diamond symbols to indicate lever changes. In past versions I've just dragged a symbol from the palette over to the measure. This no longer works.

  2. Arpeggios are too close to the notes- they overlay accidentals, and the notes are too close to the barline. Unchecking autoplace expands the staves.

I've attached a file showing both these issues.

  1. Dragging is not a good way (and never was), selecting the target and then (doubel)clicking the element in the palette is much easier and more precice

Thank you for your quick reply. Dragging and dropping is the only way to insert the symbols because we have to put them in between notes (see the file I attached). The diamond symbol is a note head so if I clicked on a note, it would replace it with a diamond. This is crucial for writing lever harp music. We used to be able to put symbols anywhere but now they are only attached to notes. Is there any way to accomplish what you see in my file example (the red diamond and accidental symbols)?

I figured it out. I forgot that in 3.6.2 I dragged symbols from the Master Palette over to the Custom Palette. As long as you use a symbol, it can be placed anywhere in the measure. If it's under a category (Notehead, Accidentals), it has to be associated with an element in the measure and it can't be moved.
