Style Setting Ignored
"Hide empty staves within systems" is checked for the main score as well as all parts. But the command is ignored (see Violin or Flute parts). I quit the program and reopened it several times, to no effect. Then I restarted the computer; still, no effect. Has anyone any idea why this is happening?

The staves that are actually empty appear hidden to me. In measure 33 the violin stave shows because it isn't empty - there is the text "mute". There are other (Soprano) staves that show because they have tempos or text entries attached to them.

Those measures are not the problem. See for instance measures 49-62.

Those measures also behave normally WRT hiding empty staves.
Do you mean that - in the Parts - you are seeing a lot of measures with rests? Press M and they will change to multi=measure rests.
