Disappearing formatting

• May 4, 2023 - 13:20

I'm running into an odd issue where some formatting I add to a score seems to vanish. I think it usually happens when I save, close, and re-open the score, but it may happen more often than that.

Here's a specific example: I like to enclose the copyright information (actually a Creative Commons license) on my scores in a box at the bottom of the first page. I have no issues adding the box—select the text, click on "More," add the box. The issue is that, when I quit and re-open MuseScore, the box is gone.

I've had similar issues with other formatting, particularly where text is concerned—words that I made bold or italic are now plain text upon re-opening the score.

I'm running MuseScore 4.0.2 on Mac 13.1.

Please can you attach your score? We can only guess whether you are using the Footer contents or whether you are creating a separate text box for the copyright. An example score in .mscz format always helps to clarify any problem.

In MS3, you cannot select the footer copyright text in order to apply a frame around it in the Inspector.
In MS4, you can apparently select the footer copyright text in order to apply a frame around it in the Properties panel.

And in MS4 I had a different experience from your description:
1. Select the copyright text at the foot of page 1
2. In the Properties panel, apply a frame around the text
3. Save the score and close it
4. Re-open the score
Expected result: there is still a frame around the copyright text
Actual result: there is no frame around the copyright text, but there is a frame around each text element in the Title area at the head of the score

So my guess is that you stumbled across a disallowed or incomplete feature in MS4. Someone familiar with the source code can comment better.
