Playback is really messed up, too high and heavily distorted
Never had this issue with Musescore 3, and now that I've opened my score in Musescore 4 it's not letting me open back up in Musescore 3.
The playback is so messed up. I have no idea what to do.

"Quick fix" answer: in MS4 you can export your score as MusicXML. Then open that MusicXML file in MS3, and carry on as you used to.
Generally this is a sign something is getting confused about the sample rate on your audio device. Find the settings for that in your OS, and try 44.1 kHz.
