Sound Doesn't Play after opening files.

• Jun 21, 2023 - 20:52

I open my existing musescore files and press play. Nothing plays. The cursor does move.
If I click on the individual notes, they do play, so there is nothing wrong with the sound.

I installed MuseScore Sounds, and that didn't fix the problem.

However, i do have a solution: Every time I load the file, I go into the Mixer, . . for settings and pick View Volume.

After I toggle a settings in the View menu, sounds play normally.

I have Windows 11. Everything is completely updated.
The audo settings don't matter for this bug. I can use the laptop speakers with any of the audio options and it doesn't matter.

This isn't an audio problem at all. It is MuseScore thinking the instruments are muted even though they are not.

It's getting weirder. I load a score and play. i can only here the Alto Sax, even though none of the instruments are muted and no instruments are soloed. Then I pause play, hit home, and play again, and now I hear all the instruments. Then I press stop, and play again, and hear nothing. Yet, I can click on any note for any instrument and hear it beautifully.

This combined with the fact that MuseScore crashes instantly whenever I pick Style from the Format menu, makes me rush to reinstall MuseScore 3. I hope I can get that working again, because I have a gig and have to get a lot done. It is really difficult to understand how as there are thousands of people with existing musescore 3 files. It doesn't help to save out files with MuseScore 4. It doesn't even help to save them to MXML and reload them. This problem simply doesn't work.

You never had to delete MU3. MU4 is more a different program than it is an update. You can have both installed.

I opened your MU3 file on my W11 computer and it plays all instruments in both Basic and MuseSounds, MU4 will try to use your default audio device unless you change it while MU4 is open. Then it will crash. Turn off exclusive mode for your device. Google how to do that or look here:https://musescore.org/en/node/339915
