Export voices to separate MIDI channels?

• Nov 21, 2009 - 18:14

I have a choir piece (SATB) written with soprano as voice one on the treble clef and alto as voice two on the same treble clef. Then tenor as voice one on the bass clef and bass as voice two on the same bass clef.

When I save this as a MIDI file it puts all four voices in MIDI channel 1. How can I get it to save each voice to a separate MIDI channel? I'm using 0.9.5 and I've not had much success running the latest Mac pre-release version, so I really need to achieve this with 0.9.5.

(I don't mind editing the MuseScore XML file directly if that is the only way to do it!)

Many thanks.

Basically you need each voice on its own instrument staff.

The following steps require selection features that are not available in 0.9.5 or earlier.

  1. Create a new score with one staff for each voice
  2. Copy the treble staff from your old score and paste onto the soprano staff of the old score
  3. Right click on one of the voice 2 notes and choose Select > More...
  4. Mark the checkboxes for staff and voice and press OK
  5. Press Del to remove the voice 2 notes
  6. Copy the treble staff from your old score and paste onto the alto staff of the new score
  7. Select all the measures of the alto staff
  8. Edit > Voices > Exchange 1-2
  9. Right click on one of the voice 2 notes and choose Select > More...
  10. Mark the checkboxes for staff and voice and press OK
  11. Press Del to remove the voice 2 notes

Continue as above for the tenor and bass parts. Then save as MIDI.
