Ties still being visible

For some reason the ties are still visible even after making the checkbox unchecked

I am unable to reproduce your problem. Check the attached score which has both ties marked as invisible - and they are indeed greyed-out.

If you hide invisible elements completely with View > Show invisible > [disable], the ties are gone:
