Editing sheet music changes strings on the linked tabulature
I have a linked sheet + tab file. When I have, in standard tuning, for example, fretted the 5th fret C on the G string, then select the note in the sheet and press the down arrow to shift it down to a B, the tabulature will change it to the open B string instead of keeping it on the G string on the 4th fret. If it had been a D on the G string 7th fret, pressing the down arrow will change it to a Db on the B string 2nd fret, instead of B string 6th fret. Obviously when entering a new note the program defaults to the lowest fret possible, but could it be possible to keep the note on the same string if it already is entered and I'm changing it? Similarly to when I select the note in the tab and press the down arrow, it will simply shift the note down one fret.

The answer is simple: when you want a certain fret number, act from the TAB staff, not from the standard staff. It's the only way to keep the total control of what your want to receive.
Because, after all, the open string B, after the C, third string, can also be relevant in certain cases, for a campanela effect for example.

Okay, makes sense! My problem is resolved as well, I was trying to fix bad accidentals in a guitar pro import, and to select i could simply select a note in the tab, right click, select, more..., select same staff, same note name.
I am considering to ditch linked staves now and copy what I have in the tab instead. Another annoying issue is that using undo to revert a change in the sheet as I described does NOT undo the string change in the tabulature, it places the previous note into the tab in the same fashion as if you had entered the note into the sheet. This means you can ruin an entire tab if you try to do sweeping changes to the sheet if you don't have a backup.
