Musescore 4 Text edit toolbar does not appear at all

• Jul 25, 2023 - 16:35

When I edit a text box, staff text, system text, expression, the text edit toolbar does not appear at the bottom of the screen. I have used this to change the size of the text, italicize, bold, etc. in prior versions. I have search for an answer. All replies are for older versions.

I am editing a single instrument score. I do not have any cords. I am not in cord mode.

Please advise.

Instead of two totally different palces to customize text properties - a toolbar and the Inspector - in MuseScore 4, it's all in the Properties panel. Works the same whether you've simply selected the text to apply the formatting to the whole thing, or if you're in edit mode and want to apply to individual words etc.

"When I edit a text box, staff text, system text, expression, the text edit toolbar does not appear at the bottom of the screen... Was so much easier with MuseScore 3."

I am not a huge fan of MuseScore 4 (so far), but I do think that combining MS3's two separate text features into a single Properties panel in MS4 was a very good idea.

Do be aware that you have (in both MS3 and MS4) two separate ways to adjust text size:
- in a single instance of a text element: with MS3's Inspector or MS4's Properties panel
- score-wide for all future insertions of text elements: with Format > Style... > Text Styles > System / Staff / Expression

If you can supply a sample score (.mscz file) with some text elements and if you can describe exactly what you tried which did not work, I'm sure someone will be able to help.
