Musescore stacking inputted notes from midi piano into one big chord, or not writing at all. How do I fix this

I few days ago I got a midi to USB C cable to connect my piano to musescore but when I try to use the piano to input notes, it either stacks all the notes into one big chord, even with the advance to the next note on key release setting on, or not entering at all, even with making sure I completely release the key when playing. When I used the exact same setup on garageband it worked perfectly, so I'm not sure why it's only breaking on musescore.

I'm using a YPT-220 and a Fasgear USB C to MIDI Cable
(I also tried using an AKAI MPK mini play, which was working fine a few weeks ago, with a USB A to USB B and the same issue persists)

Any help on how to fix this would be appreciated.
