"Change instrument" mid staff bug

I have a part in which piccolo (score starts on picc) switches to flute, and then back to picc. The "change instrument" text used to work perfectly until 4.1.1. Now it only works temporarily and will switch back to ONLY piccolo whenever I save and close out of the score. Is there a way to have this work without the instrument glitching back to picc?
