opening musicxml files automatically in MS 3 - but mscz file doesn't open ( screen shot)

I recently was thrilled to open a .musicxml file sent to me as an attachment to an email and see that it automatically opened into my Musescore 3 software. I was able to correct some text, some musical notations and saved it. I have played it several times and it worked fine. Now when I try to open I get a popup saying "load error...can't read the file - see screen shot attached.
Consequently, I was thinking that my version of MS 3.2.3 was simply too old and tried to download MS 4.1, but then after downloading it I got another popup, see attached screenshot..saying "invalid url...." which makes no sense to me, except that I can't open the downloaded 4.1 version.
Any help on both or either of these items?

Your version of 3.2.3 is too old, use at least 3.6.2!
The mscz indeed probably needs Mu4 to open though
Other than that it depends on some settings in your OS which application gets used for certain file extensions, but either Mu3 and Mu4 should be able to open it
That url should start with "file:", no idea why it doesn't
