Concert pitch - altering from A=440 to A=415 (without transposing the score)

• Oct 25, 2023 - 21:11

Hello,

My chorus is working on the Bach Mass in B Minor. We will be performing the work with period instruments tuned at A=415. We do not to transpose the midi files and we don't want the key signature to change (that would confuse the musicians). We want the midi file's key signature to remain as it exists in the score. I simply cannot find a method of changing the playback from A=440 to A=415. Any thoughts would be much appreciated!

In Musescore 3 you can use the Synthesizer to set the master tuning frequency.

Alternatively you could transpose down a semitone and then use a transposing instrument in B to make it "look" in the right key.

Found (with the help of a member of our chorus) that version 4 permits the pitch to be modified down a semitone by changing Properties/Playback/Tuning (cents) to "-100" ... AND the setting is preserved when the file is saved as a .mscz file (MuseScore). The documentation calls out an existing bug - this works only with MS Basic sounds (if you use other sounds, MuseScore will terminate).
