MuseScore 4 down-rev on Windows?

• Nov 2, 2023 - 19:15

I downloaded MuseScore 4 for Windows on my up-to-date Windows 11 system.
When I check for updates, it says I'm up to date.

BUT...

But in the Instruments tab, the option to specify Staff Type is inactive.
In fact, the label is the grammatically-incorrect "Staves Type".

On the other hand, I've seen screenshots from another Mu4 user that show that option working perfectly.

It's possible they are on a Mac, and the Windows version of Mu4 is down-rev.
Maybe the Windows version is lagging, or maybe the updated Windows version
was never uploaded to the website. Or maybe it is simply failing on Windows 11.

Can someone tell me if the differences I am seeing are due to Mac vs. Windows?

(I have a 13-year-old Mac Air, but it tops out at the High Sierra OS (v.10-something).
When I downloaded Mu4 onto it, Mu4 says it needs Mac OS 11.5 (Big Sur) to run.)

Help > About says
Version: 4.1.1.232071203
Revision: e4d1ddf

(Screencap attached, in case I transcribed wrong.)

Language setting s/b EN. I'll check...
- Not in project properties
- Not in preferences
- I see system services to set language, but nothing about current setting.

I give! Where do I find it... (I'm pretty sure I checked EN on install. That's the
default, in any case. But I can always reinstall to be sure.)

I did notice I have AbcImEx in the plugins (even though it doesn't work).
It doesn't seem to be enabled though. (It says it can't find Python.)
Looking for a way to remove it.

Other plugins: Lilypond lyrics, Playback Tuning, Note Names

Note:
I disabled all plugins and restarted Mu. No joy.
(Not really expected. The "Stave Type" label tells me we have a version
difference, not a functional interaction.)

Thanks, Jim! (and Jojo)

That's great to know. So now the issue changes:
When I look Instruments > Plucked Strings, I don't see a mandolin option!

I chose Ukulele to get 4 strings. But so far I'm not seeing a way to change the tuning
to GDAE. The linked tablature is terrific. (I'm gonna love this, when it's working), but
it's in standard ukulele GAEA tuning, instead of what I need.

I'll search for ways to change tuning while awaiting your reply.
(I think I've seen it -- but it could have been another app...)

FOUND IT. YES!!! Under Stave/Part Properties after rght-click in the tablature.
Nice! I can change the displayed name to Mandolin, and change strings to G3 D4 A4 E5

SWEET!

I now have a tab -- and what a beautiful tab it is!!!!
(I knew I was going to love it when I got it working. I DO !!)

I wrote up the full solution here: https://musescore.org/en/node/356362
