Changing the highlighting color of notes & text while editing
Something I’ve done has changed the highlighting color, which used to be blue, to black. How can I choose a better contrasting color? Thanks…

I assume you are using MU4
To reset everything to default go to Edit>Preferences and select Reset Preferences
If you want to play around to find highlight colours you are happier with go to Edit>Preferences>Advanced where you can adjust the highlighting colours for each voice individually.
If you want to select a different colour scheme for the UI go to Edit>Preferences>Appearance
It is similar in MU3 but there are more options available.
I should’ve mentioned that I’m using version 2.0. Until very recently I’d been using V1.1 on an air-locked iMac from 2009. I finally upgraded to a Mac Mini running Ventura 13.6 & found the transition to the more recent versions of Musescore a bit complicated compared to my previous frame of reference. I’m taking the transition to V4 in steps easier for me to incorporate into my workflow. I’m 66 years old, change comes better in digestible increments!

2.0, really? If you insists on 2.x, better go to 2.3.2
Or make the jump to 3.6.2

As already mentioned, if sticking with MuseScore 2, you should at least use its latest version.
In any event, MuseScore 2 does not have an Advanced tab in Edit > Preferences to choose/change highlighting colors.
So, go to menu item: Help→Revert to Factory Settings to revert any change(s) you've done.

I'd advise you to consider using MuseScore 3.6.2 as that change is "more digestible" than jumping directly to MuseScore 4 -- with its entirely new interface.
After resetting everything I could I still have no difference between the score itself & any element I’m editing. I know I’m “behind the times” using 2.0, but as an amateur hobbyist it works well enough for me. Does anyone know how to make available the contrasting color that was standard in the original software? I doubt it was discontinued & should be accessible, no?
