Update 4.1 Causes Computer to Crash and Related Issue

• Dec 18, 2023 - 13:09

I hopped on Musescore for the first time in good bit last week. It updated and I listened to my few scores to see if I felt inspired to finish any. The next day my computer (Lenovo Legion w/ Windows) continuously hit multiple different errors including WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR and PROCESS1_INITIALIZATION_FAILED. I tried the list of Windows suggestions to fix them and ended up having to system restore to before the update. I uninstalled the software, and thinking it was a file corruption from during my original download of the update, I figured I could reinstall the software, which I did without issue.

I used the software for several hours last Friday and only came across an issue saving my new score to the cloud. Yesterday, I went to show my fiancé what I had done so far, and while it was playing back my score it got stuck on one of the beats and crashed. The file for the score I had been working on was still visible on the app but the file was not retrievable, so I've lost that. My computer also started throwing errors again and I hard uninstalled the software because the Uninstaller tool couldn't find the right file path.

So, anyone know how I could get the software back without having these issues?

I'm not sure I would recommend saving to the cloud. They end up in your .com account page. Plus there have been many MuseScore issues with the cloud lately.
Uninstall does not get rid of everything. This is true of most software. So you are likely to have the same problem after as you did before. You probably might consider searching your hard drive for anything related to MuseScore 4 and delete it. Move your scores, of course. There are hidden files that will need to be cleared. Control panel>File explorer>View>check view Hidden files
