musescore.org/import pdf to mscz not working?

• Dec 22, 2023 - 17:15

*I know this has probably been discussed many times, but it is a problem...

So I've used the musescore.org/import tool and it works for other songs except this one song I'd really want to edit. It's a piano roll and most of the chords are not playable by a single human (you'd need 4 hands), so I'd want to adjust the chords. Anyway i've imported the following pdfs to the site and they were both unsuccessful. The first one included the header, page numbers, and measure numbers. Since that was unsuccessful, I removed the header, pg numbers, measure numbers... still unsuccessful. Those pdfs have REALLY GOOD RESOLUTION and I don't know why they couldn't be converted. Is there a reason to this? Can I fix it? Or do i have to find another way? (I've considered hand-transcribing it but that would take a LOT of time, especially it being 6 pages)

I took a closer look at fascinaitingfull.pdf.
This file cannot be processed by Audiveris because, I assume, the resolution is too large, resulting in too many pixels. Audiveris is the tool that works behind the PDF import.
If you have a PDF printer on your computer, then open the file and print it again as a PDF. I did this with this file; see attachment. It hast now a lower resolution.
At least my locally installed Audiveris then processes this file.
But: You still have to make a lot of manual corrections! Optical music recognition is still a long way from being perfect.

Addendum:
I did some corrections in the first half of the score and saved it with MuS 3.7. It is a lot of work ...
May it be a starting point for your further corrections. You need to check almost all measures, e.g. grace notes are not recognized, as are clef changes in the middle of a measure.
