Musescore 4.2 Continuous view

In Musescore 4.2 in "continuous view", my orchestral score is filled with huge black masses that are also blue and green and obliterate the score's musical notation. When I attempt to shift back to "page view", the transition is very slow and some bars emerge with only slurs or ties and no musical notation. When I delete one of these ties, it helps restore that bar, but this is time consuming and happens in numerous places. Also in 4.2, continuous view begins with huge spaces between staves that have to be manually modified with "fixed spacer down". Any suggestions?
