How to set stems of chord-like notes in opposite directions?

• Dec 31, 2023 - 20:47

Hello,

I am copying Hanon piece and in original for example there is note C over another note C (octave lower). In original sheet the "upper" C stem goes up, the lower one goes down. However when I created this from scratch what I get is chord-like effect -- both stems go in the same direction, when I select even single C and I switch stem up, both stems go up, down -- both goes down, auto -- same story. I am unable to "unglue" them.

So how to make them go in opposite directions?

Thank you in advance.

Many thanks, it solved the problem. I was looking at stem direction options solely, because I have some pieces in MuseScore (not mine, copied from https://musescore.com/user/29808009/scores/7877294) which have opposite stems in one voice. I tried to "reverse engineer" how it was done (just out of curiosity, to learn something) but still I don't know :-).

Using two voices is super easy approach and works great, thank you once again.
