How can I have multiple VSTs for the same instrument?

• Jan 1, 2024 - 17:23

I want to be able to play multiple VSTs on the same instrument (a form of layering multiple VST if you will) regardless what the instrument it is. So right now if I go into mixer I can select which VST I want for choir - I have musescore's default "Muse Sounds" but then I have other options, SoundFonts (which isn't the way I'm going here because that's old tech), VST3 (I'm using Spitfire and other free ones). So what I want to do is use one Treble clef of Soprano in Muse Sound - Soprano, and another Treble clef in a VST3 of my choosing (such as a freebie from Spitfire) so they can play at the same time in separate staffs.

My goal is that by adding more layers (samples) it creates a richer sound. So as much as I appreciate Musescore samples, I wanted to add non MuseScore samples in different staffs (for example one sample of soprano by Musescore and another sample of soprano, using the same melody, in Spitfire) to get a richer playback. I'm just trying to streamline the process - obviously when I export into my DAW programs I can mix and match there - I just wanted more in one place as much as possible.

Some sample players allows you to "stack" several instruments as layers. f.e. Kontakt player. Offourse this requires that you have a Kontakt based instrument to do this. Spitfire LABS is contained within it's own player engine that cannot be layered. As I see it, it leaves you with two options. Either create seperate staffs for the two instruments using different Samples - or switch to a sample player that allows layering. (Kontakt is not the only one that can do this) By doing the latter, you don't have to create a second staff. - But: You will not be able to layer a MU4 instrument within f.e. Kontakt
