Request for engraving change for the 'Cross' notehead
When entering notes in tablature, the 'Cross' in the notehead palette is available. However, it is quite small, so it would be useful to have the ability to change its size, or use a different item in the notehead palette (or can I create a new notehead item that will work in tablature?)
Additionally, the Cross is positioned so the top of the Cross is aligned with the bottom of the ledger line; it seems like it should be centered there.

It's a very old request (several years... see: https://musescore.org/en/node/94211) and unfortunately it's never come to fruition. This feature request should be republished not in this forum but in GitHub: https://github.com/musescore/MuseScore/issues
In the meantime, you can get a slightly better result by changing Font: Serif vs. Sans
To achieve this: right-click the TAB staff -> Staff/part properties -> Advanced style properties -> Fret Marks -> Font: choose MuseScore Tab Serif (click for opening drop-down list)

That is disappointing to hear, as I had the impression that a central point of pride was that MuseScore had the best engraving.
However, thank you very much for the partial work-around! I will definitely be giving that a try!
EDIT: The font change and increasing the size by one point is slightly better, but I have to squint to see the difference!
I failed to fix this via a plugin back in 2022 because I couldn't find a way of detecting these X notes in a TAB score from the plugin API.
See https://musescore.org/en/node/335562
I'll try again now that I know a bit more about plugins.
The font change workaround didn't suit me as Free Serif looks pretty awful for fret numbers even after applying the TAB Bold plugin https://musescore.org/en/project/tab-bold.

Thank you for the reply and link to some of the history of this issue. I hold out hope that with the newly released Guitar features this might get a fresh look...

I may fix it in MS3.7
