What is the purpose of the "How To" button?

I spent fifteen minutes crafting a message on the "How to" button, only to watch it be deleted. If there is only a certain type of post to be made there, it would be nice if the admin placed a disclaimer regarding what posts can be made there.

Are you talking about this menu path on musescore.org?
Support > How To's > +Add new how to

The menu option takes you to the "Create How To" page:
https://musescore.org/en/node/add/howto

Then you fill in all the required fields, and if you scroll right to the end you will see two buttons: Save and Preview. Did you preview your new entry and then save it? If so, what happened?
- Did you see a correct view of the expected page when you chose Preview?
- Was there any error message when you pressed Save?

It is for creating a How-To, a description of how to do certain things with MuseScore. Check what's there already.

It is not for asking questions, that's what the forums are for.

Similarly the FAQs are for answering Frequently Asked Questions, not for asking them

But yes, a disclaimer seems needed. And IIRC there once was such a disclaimer, not sure when and why it vanished, just noticed this now
