Midi plays higher and faster than written

This happened after I installed the latest update. When I input notes for any instrument, the midi plays back an octave higher than what I wrote. Also, when I set the tempo, the playback plays at double that tempo. For instance, when I specify quarter note = 80bpm, the playback plays at 160bpm. To temporarily solve the issue, I use an 8vb clef for each instrument and set the tempo to half of my desired tempo, but this will be very difficult to work with because I need people to be able to read my music without them wondering why the marked tempo is half of my desired tempo.
