Sometimes the piano's sustain pedal function does not work properly in musescore 4.

• Jan 22, 2024 - 17:42

During playback, when the score indicates to sustain phrases, the pedal sometimes stops working after a few notes or measures depending on the meter and tempo or after specific chords.

In the example provided, the pedal sometimes stops after the second measure, but it should sustain for a full four measures as notated. Measures 3 and 4 sometimes play back as though there is no pedal.

Sometimes certain intervals won't sustain in playback: some 9th's don't always sustain;
and sometimes certain chord changes won't sustain in playback.

If I export an audio file from a score with faulty sustains, then the exported file also sustains faultily.

Please note: this does not happen all the time and usually can be resolved by simply copying the measures, deleting them, then pasting them back in place. For some reason that usually causes it to work properly again.

Also, it seems that if the original notation plays back okay, then it always plays back okay; but if the original notation plays back faultily, then it always plays back faultily until it is corrected.

The glitch might have to do with how the music is notated:
insert a sustain line spanning several blank beats then fill in notes
versus
fill in notes then insert a sustain line spanning the notes.

I've always been able to correct this issue so this does not need specific resolution, but I think it warrants awareness.

Known bug.
Also, the audio exported to an mp3 is always the same as what you hear in the editor, stuttering aside if that is an issue for you.
