Musecore 4.2 tempo 5x times. Audio driver related problem?

• Jan 26, 2024 - 10:57

Musescore 4.0 did crashed during startup. Installed 4.2 and new timeconsuming frustrations. I have RME FIREFACE UFX II soundcard and is running a proffesional recording studio. My computer is a windows 10 machine with 64 GB and I have all kinds of software, softsynths and plugins that runs without any problems. If I go into Windows Settings/sound driver and move around and try different in/out drivers the playback speed suddenly is ok. But if I close Musescore and open same file again same "roundabout". There must be a proper sollution here? And why this "stoneage" way of changing the BPM on a track? Why not just click on BPM in the upper right corner and set a new BPM?

Regarding the playback being too fast overall - typically that would be from a too-high sample rate not supported by the libraries MuseScore relies on. Try keeping to 44.1 or 48 kHz.

Stone age musicians may have kept to just one tempo for an entire score, but somewhere a few centuries ago, the idea of changing tempo mid score became a thing, and standard music notation developed a way of indicating that. So that's how to do it - same way every composer since the Renaissance has done it, with tempo markings in the score itself. MuseScore does still use standard notation, until something better comes along :-)

It’s possible in MU4 as well, using the standard technique used for centuries - adding markings on your score. Same way you specify what notes you want played, or what dynamic you want them played at or what articulation you want used. MuseScore is notation software first and foremost, so if there is something you’d like the people reading your score to know about what you want played, you put it on your score.

The BPM issue is not reaaly a problem, I have learned to handle this. The playback speed problem is more annoying. Last time I started Musescore the speed was correct. A few hours earlier when I closed musescore the speed was "Mickey Mouse". (which could imply a high playback speed issue like 192Khz instead of 44,1kHz)

It's got to be an audio driver / compatibility issue, but since every system is different, unfortunately, you're probably the only one with your specific configuration, so the best I can do is suggest you continue to experiment with the available settings until you figure out which setting triggers the problem. Also keep in mind the possibility another running process could be involved in the conflict,
