Time Signatures Not Affecting Beats Per Measure
In one of my scores, there is a change at the very end of the piece from 4/4 to 2/2 and back to 4/4. However, when I changed the time sign. at the end, the measure still has four beats, and not two. I cannot find a work around or force the software to see it the way I want it too. I would like to avoid to expand the last motif into multiple measures, but that might be what it needs. If you know how to fix this, please let me know. The problem is right at the Adagio.

A beat in 2/2 is a minim (half note) - two beats in a bar.
There are two crotchets in a minim, so four crotchets in a bar.
Timing is a different matter, though. 120 "beats" per minute (MS default) is defined as 120 crotchets per minute regardless of whether you're in 4/4, 2/2, 6/8 or whatever.

Me not realizing that is so much worse given that I am a music student in college. Thank you for your help.
When the time signature is 2/2, there are two beats in the measure and the HALF-NOTE gets one beat. Therefore, the measures appear identical to those that are 4/4. Four quarter-notes would be counted 1, 2, 3, 4 for 4/4 and 1, &, 2, & for 2/2.
How do you want your 2/2 measures to appear? If you want two quarter-notes in each measure, then the time signature should be 2/4, not 2/2.
