Writing a semi-quaver followed by a dotted quaver
Hi I'm still learning MuseScore... I actually use version 3 as I had already learnt a lot of it and then had a break. I find certain things seem to operate bit different on version 4 and I haven't made time to get my head around it yet.
Anyway, can anyone explain how to write a semi-quaver followed by a dotted quaver. I've seen many explanations of writing it the other way round (dotted quaver to semi quaver which is a way some people notate swing) but I can't work out how to do it the other way. It's an important part of a basic bossa nova pattern. Almost the bossa clave although it's not called that in Brazilian music. When I try to dot the quaver it just leaves a rest after the semi-quaver and ties the quaver into the next bar. I just can't figure out how to write it!

What are you starting with?
A crotchet note or rest? Or two quavers?
If your are starting with two quavers, select the first one and change it to a semi-quaver. Then enter note input mode and enter a dotted quaver on the simi-quaver rest.
Pretty much the same if starting with a crotchet.
Sounds like you are dotting a quaver at the end of a bar.

Thanks. This worked. I was dotting the quaver at the end of the bar... I also didn't realise it's best to select rhythms and then enter notes. I was trying to do it simultaneously. I get it now.
