New option for "squeezed" chord symbols

• Feb 25, 2024 - 13:26

When chord symbols are placed next to each other, MU can run out of space to display them all on the same line, and it starts looking not nice, requiring manual repositioning that can't always be successfully nice.

My suggestion is to add an option to "squeeze" chord symbols, similar to the one in iRealPro

Is this already existing ?

I wonder if changing the chord symbol font to a narrow style font would remedy this. Although special symbols like the triangle for Maj7 might not be available in narrow.

Good suggestion. I just tried but it doesn't work. One can change the font in the properties but it doesn't affect how the Chord Symbol is laid out. It is only affecting the font while one edit the chord symbols.

I tried another way around. Tweaking the chord style file (chords_jazz.xml). And there indeed, referencing another font, affect how the Chord Symbol is laid out. But as you suspected it, all the special characters are missing. AND it applies for the whole score. You cannot apply this for some chords only.

I'll try to see if I can quickly derive a condensed version of MuseJazz Text.
