Abrupt dynamic changes

• Mar 5, 2024 - 09:34

This is a problem that another user has posted two years ago (https://musescore.org/en/node/340109). Nothing has improved since. Should I report this problem on github?

It has already been reported on Github (which is where the developers look) back in September 2023:
Playback dynamic seemingly randomly changes without a change in dynamic mark

If you have a sample score which clearly demonstrates the problem, you could add your score to the issue on Github?

I have the score in question open on my system. A few things occur to me.

Yes the volume change is quite abrupt. But the software is doing exactly what is being asked of it. Making the release longer is just going to mush things up. If the OP was using OE dynamics, remember this was written to be played by real musicians who can adjust on the spot. Computers can't. I changed a few p dynamics to mp and things seemed much better. Who is to say that real players might not do the same. Don't they always read everything in a score exactly like it is written? Hardly. They make notes into music. Composer intent is always subject to the performer interpretation. In the case of software, the person using it has to do the adjusting.
Unless playback isn't as important. Even so, there are things that can be done. It just depends.
