Update for plugins in MU4

• Mar 18, 2024 - 08:42

In MuseScore 3 there were a few useful plugins which I haven't been able to find in MuseScore 4.

One is/was the Proof Reading plugin for composers to detect parallel octaves and fifths. Is this available yet, or are there plans to bring that over to MU4?

I try to maintain a copy of MU3 in order to use some features which seemingly haven't yet been implemented in MU4, but this is getting increasingly more difficult as there are so many prompts to "update" or "upgrade" both scores and the program itself.

If MU4 had all the features of MU3 this wouldn't be a problem as I would simply shift everything I do to MU4, but it is a problem if each "update" actually loses features which in some contexts I'd want to have.

Missing features also include the Piano Roll editor, which is occasionally useful, though if I want to use a piano roll I usually output to a DAW and use the PR there. It is all extra work, though.

I do have a separate machine which can only run MU3, and it's possible to move files to that machine, but it's more effort.

I have some plugins installed. I am unaware of any others.

If there are other ones - perhaps more recently created or adapted for MU4, where do I pick them up from, and how do I install them?

Ah - yes I can see what you mean now. The link you gave provides the qml files - which I've now downloaded.
I'll give that a go. Thanks.

Somethings still not right. Now I get a message about shortcuts not being defined.

Does it need a shortcut to work with MU4? Possibly - though I thought that maybe installing and enabling it would do that or whatever is needed automatically.

They seem not to be. I never really thought they were.

The plugin works, but only in some contexts.

Chords are a no-no, so for scores of interest some re-arrangements might be necessary, such as exploding one staff into several staves.

I'm not sure yet whether it works with multiple voices on the same staff.

I don't know why it didn't seem to work at first - but it is working now.

Is there an up to date list of possible plugins? I thought that most are now built in to MU4, but I had to explicitly download the qml file and place it in order to get that working. Maybe I need to periodically update and reinstall MU4 to keep things up to date.
