Didn't autosave?
i was working on a piece and then had to leave and I thought I had the autosave on but I don't think it is. when I opened the app again it asked if I wanted to continue and I accidentally pressed no. is there any way to retrieve what I did before back?
(sorry I'm not quite sure how to word it but hopefully it makes sense)

Do not rely on autosave. Manually use Save As... and give your file a different name each time.
Why?
Autosave just opens up your existing file with all your work to date, readies a new file to accept the changes and then overwrites your old file - hopefully with recent changes and additions to your work but possibly with garbage or a lot of 00s. Autosave is like mailing your work to yourself and hoping it will get delivered and not lost or damaged in transit.
