Jazz Leadsheet voices

• Jun 2, 2024 - 16:29

Using Musescore 4.2.1 on Windows 10, I'm working on a Jazz Leadsheet, ie vocal melody line, chord symbols, and lyrics. So a single treble staff.

Typing "i" shows that the single staff is "Piano", so I'd like to change that to Vocal, but have not succeeded.

The reason for that change is that I'd like to add treble+bass Piano staffs, but for just the 4 bar Piano intro. Selecting those bars and adding Piano in the instrument screen adds the staffs to the whole piece.
Alternatively, I could just add a bass staff to the first 4 bars and label it "Piano Intro".

Thanks....

Open a blank score and include a Voice and a Piano. (In my opinion, all the voice sounds are horrible. I always use either oboe, harmonica, or trombone instead.) Input the intro in the Piano staves and the main lead sheet info in the Voice staff. Once all the notes are in place, go to Format / Style / Score tab and check the box to Hide empty staves within systems and uncheck (immediately next) Don't hide empty staves in first system.

Here's an example, Uncheck those boxes on the Style dialog to see what it looks like "normally".
